Sanjukta, after her debut at the Lakme Fashion Week last year, is in fact the first Assamese designer to do so. Today at 4:30PM, is when she will be showcasing her collections at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort.

Sanjukta Dutta’s Mehkla Chadors enchanted the audience at Mysore Fashion Week 2015 / UrbanAsian.
Joining the league is Nandini Baruva, who will be presenting her label Kirameki by Nandini Baruva at 6 Degree Studio on the 4th day at 4:30PM. Drawing inspiration from the ethnic Taal Xaal of Assam, Nandini’s collection is called Bhumisattva. It echoes sustainable fashion and natural fabrics, woven primarily from pineapple (pina) and banana fibre, and the indigenous Eri (Endi) silk – also known as Ahimsa silk. Hand weaving and embroidery methods were used in designing her collection with traditional Assamese motifs, dating back to the Royal Ahom dynasty. The Xinghap buta and Gos buta are the primary motifs in her designs.

About Nandini: In 2007 edition of the Gladrags Mrs India pageant, Nandini was the only contestant from Northeast among the 22 others narrowed from 1000. She made it as the second runner’s up. She has always taken fashion designing as her primary profession, also devoting her time as a model when required.
About Sanjukta: Working as an Assistant Engineer in Assam PWD for 10 years, she evolved her creativity and love for fashion in hopes to highlight the textiles and hand looms of Assam – giving due recognition to the immense wealth that the state has to offer in terms of textiles. She now has 13 factories, where she produces silk mekhela chadors and also creates customised traditional Assamese jewellery. Her design studio, Sanjukta’s Studio, opened in 2014 and houses exquisite designer mekhela chadors. Sanjukta has successfully showcased her designs at various platforms, including Women’s Era Miss India, Mysore Fashion Week and India Beach Fashion Week.
