This also marks the beginning of a new year according to the Assamese calendar. April is one of the best times to visit Assam, as irrespective of religion, caste, tribe, language, age, Bihu is celebrated in style and with gusto for the entire month. Young boys and girls sing and dance in rhythmic Bihu songs, functions and entertainment is organised is almost every locality for people to gather, people visit each other’s house, houses are cleaned and decked up like new brides, people buy new clothes, Bihu delicacies and prepared in large batches, and to top it all, the weather is just apt during this time.
