It’s the perfect time of the year in Assam to explore some of the most beautiful and serene places besides the typical touristy locations, such as Kaziranga. Here are a few:
Chandubi Lake: Located almost 65 km from the Guwahati city, this picturesque lake can be best explored on bicycles. You can leave early and enjoy a picnic near the lake or at the Chandubi Jungle Resort. The village (and its people), named Loharghat, live minimally on naturally grown resources around them.

How to reach:
By Air: For people travelling by air, the lake is easily accessible, as it is located near to the Guwahati airport.
By Road: For those who like the morning sun and love to breathe in scenic beauties, cycling or a short drive is the best option from Guwahati city.
Ramsa Hills, Kharguli: This is perhaps one of the best places for a little soiree by the white sands of the mighty Brahmaputra. Pitch a tent on these sands and Ramsa Hills could be your ideal winter weekend getaway from Guwahati – with the perfect blend of peace and tranquillity.

How to reach:
By Road: The only way to reach Ramsa Hills at Kharguli in Guwahati is to arrive in Guwahati (by flight, train or bus). Take an Uber or any other easily available local taxi service.
Majuli: A trip to Majuli, the world’s largest river island, in the winters is a definite must! Plan an overnight stay in Jorhat (with a lovely dinner amidst the tea gardens) and enjoy a ferry ride to Majuli the next morning. Visit the temples or Xatras, or experience its world-famous mask-making sites and workshops. You can also stay here for a week or two to learn the art of making these unique masks.

How to reach:
By Air: Reach Jorhat by air and take a ferry to Majuli.
By Railway: Jorhat is well connected by trains.
By Road: There are many bus and taxi services from Guwahati or Jorhat.
Haflong: Situated about 310 km from Guwahati, Haflong is ideal for campers, hikers and for those who love the hills. Famous primarily for its adventure activities, it is a favourite place for paragliders and trekkers. The Halflong Lake is one of the largest natural water bodies in Assam and is famous for producing oranges and apples. Although the town doesn’t have too many great accommodation options, camping here is always heavenly.
