A three-hour drive from Shillong will bring you to Nongkhnum – Asia’s second-largest river island. The 2-day Nongkhnum Music Festival (6 and 7 Jan 2017) is a privately owned event, organised by Deeh-Ne Entertainment Group. “Deeh-Ne” means “From Here”. The sole aim of the organiser is to promote young talents in the fields of arts and entertainment.
Why should you visit the fest? Because it is set-up in a beautiful venue, there are numerous fun-filled activities and some breath-taking camp sites. In 2016, the fest had activities such as battle of the bands, beauty pageants and wine festivals, which were the points of attraction for all those travelling from across world and the country.
If we have managed to get you excited about the fest already, you should know that there will be blue and green river water flowing while you enjoy the company of good music, wine, food and friends. There will be fascinating new additions, such as the tree-climbing competition, known as Kudiang, traditional rice beer drinking competition, selling of various souvenirs handcrafted beautifully by indigenous people and the District Commerce Industries, Nongtsoin.

The doorway to the island is through a narrow bridge by the Weinia Falls. The falls is formed by the Kynshi river. You can reach the venue in the following ways:
By Air: Land in Guwahati and take a cab to Shillong
By Rail: The nearest railway station is Guwahati, which is 176 kms away from Shillong
Once you have reached Shillong, travel another 109 km to the Nongkhnum Island. There is easy accessibility of transportation.
