Breathe Meghalaya is a documentary on the journey of two explorers – a travel writer and a filmmaker – in search of a beautiful village called Kongthong, a place where tunes instead of names are used to call each other. In 2016, while looking for a new place to visit, these two friends read about Kongthong in a small paragraph of a travel magazine. Trying to learn a little more about the place, they searched for it on Google, but found nothing – intriguing them even more. They quickly made plans in mid-September and were in Meghalaya the next month for the entire month.
Upon reaching Shillong, they found that even people there didn’t know much about the place! Kongthong lies in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, with a population of less than 600 people. An unexplored place, this is where they wanted to be.
Both started their journey from New Delhi to Meghalaya, slowing witnessing the change of metro life into the embrace of the nature, discovering beautiful waterfalls, living root bridges and incomparable experiences. In the process, they realised the meaning of ‘Breathe’.
The two creative artists felt that the only way to justify the beauty of the place was to stick to their basic instincts of exploring and expressing. Luckily or accidentally, sponsorships, collaborations and cooperation came in and things fell in place.
The documentary was expected to be released across social media platforms on 31st March. The trailer with brilliant cinematography and direction is already out and has been receiving huge response, respect and love – luring all travellers and tourists to make Meghalaya their next destination.
Enjoy this sneak peak into Breathe Meghalaya!
